Self-Employed Farmer Stream criteria

Self-Employed Farmer Stream criteria (include but are not limited to):

v    You must prove that you have farm management skills shown by:

v     Financial documentation of your existing farm business

v     Documentation of your education, training and work experience

v     Proposed business plan for the farming enterprise you are considering in Alberta

v     Proof that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance your proposed farming business.

v     You must have sufficient financial resources to develop a sustainable farming operation.

v    You must be able to invest a minimum of CDN $500,000 of equity in a primary production farming business in Alberta.

v   You must provide documents that demonstrates you have a minimum net worth of CDN $500,000 or confirmation that you have access to a similar amount of funds from other sources.

v     The CDN $500,000 is the minimum amount. You may be required to show you have the ability to invest more than the minimum.

v     You must invest in a primary production farming business in Alberta.

v     You will have to document your investment intentions in your proposed business plan.

 

v      Applications representing the best opportunity for growth relevant to Alberta's agri-food targets will be given priority.

 

Meeting the criteria listed above does not guarantee a nomination or permanent residence.

 

 

Apply with your employer under one of three different category options:

1. Skilled Worker Category

You may qualify, if you have been offered a permanent and full-time job by an Alberta employer in an eligible skilled occupation. Learn more: Skilled Worker Category

You may qualify if you recently graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada, have a Post-Graduation Work Permit, and have been offered a permanent and full-time job by an Alberta employer in an eligible occupation. Learn more: International Graduate Category

3.     3.Semi-Skilled Worker Category

You may qualify for nomination if you have been offered a permanent and full-time job by an Alberta employer in an eligible semi-skilled occupation, and you are a temporary foreign worker.

Apply on your own (without an employer) under one of three different category options:

1.      Compulsory and Optional Trades Category

You may qualify if you are a temporary foreign worker and have a valid trade certificate in a compulsory or optional trade in Alberta issued or recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT). Learn more: Compulsory and Optional Trades Category

2.      Engineering Occupations Category

1.     100% Ownership Stream

If you are interested in immigrating to Prince Edward Island and would like to own your own business, you may be eligible for a nomination for permanent residency through the 100% Ownership Stream of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). This stream is for foreign nationals with business-ownership or extensive management experience who would like to own and operate their own business in PEI.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for nomination through the 100% Ownership stream you must:

v  have a minimum verifiable personal net worth of $600,000 which has been accumulated through legal and legitimate sources in your own right;

v  have a minimum education of secondary school equivalent;

v  be within 21-59 years of age at the time of application;

v  have transferable management skills and past employment or business ownership experience;

v  meet minimum language requirements equivalent to a CLB/NCLC 4 (link is external); and

v  intend to live and work in PEI while providing day-to-day active and ongoing management of your PEI-based company.

v  Attend an interview with staff from the Office of Immigration.

 

v  Sign an escrow agreement with the Province and submit a $200,000 deposit, which will be refunded upon you meeting the terms and conditions of the escrow agreement.

2.     Partial Ownership Stream

If you are interested in immigrating to Prince Edward Island and would like to invest in and run a business, you may be eligible for a nomination for permanent residency through the Partial Ownership Stream of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). This stream is for foreign nationals with extensive management or business-ownership experience who would like to invest in and participate in the management of a PEI business.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for nomination through the Partial Ownership stream you must:

 

v  have a minimum verifiable personal net worth of $600,000 which has been accumulated through legal and legitimate sources in your own right;

v  have a minimum education of secondary school equivalent;

v  be within 21-59 years of age at the time of application;

v  have transferable management skills and past employment or business ownership experience;

v  meet minimum language requirements equivalent to a CLB/NCLC 4 (link is external); and

v  intend to live and work in PEI while providing day-to-day active and ongoing management of your PEI-based company.

v  Attend an interview with staff from the Office of Immigration.

 

v  Sign an escrow agreement with the Province and submit a $200,000 deposit, which will be refunded upon you meeting the terms and conditions of the escrow agreement

 

3.     Prince Edward Island Expression of Interest System

 

The Office of Immigration has created a new Expression of Interest System.  All foreign nationals interested in applying for permanent residency through the Business Impact Category, Express Entry or Labour Impact Category must create an account and profile through our on-line Expression of Interest System.  If you are using a representative, they must submit a profile on your behalf. 

How does the new Expression of Interest System work?

Immigration through the Prince Edward Island through Business Impact Category, Express Entry or Labour Impact Category is a three-step process:

vStep 1: Create an account and submit your profile in the Expression of Interest system

vStep 2: The highest-scoring qualified candidates with a connection to Prince Edward Island are invited to submit an application to the PEI PNP

vStep 3: Following a thorough review of the paper application submitted to the Office of Immigration, Prince Edward Island nominates successful candidates to make a separate application to the Government of Canada for permanent resident visas for you and your family.

 

Important

An Expression of Interest is not an application, but an indication of your interest in being considered to apply to the PEI PNP. The Office reserves the right to limit intake or make exclusions from Expressions of Interest draws. 

Information provided in the Expression of Interest Profile must be valid and verifiable. The Office of Immigration will compare information provided in application with the Expression of Interest Profile, if there is a discrepancy it may affect your ability to apply.  Files that have been determined to contain misrepresentations may be ineligible to apply to the Office of Immigration for 2 years.

4.     Work Permit Stream

If you are interested in immigrating to Prince Edward Island and would like to invest in and run a business, you may be eligible for a nomination for permanent residency through the Work Permit Stream of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). This stream is for foreign nationals with business ownership or extensive management experience who would like to move to PEI  to start their business, and eventually become a permanent resident.

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for nomination through the Work Permit stream you must:

 

v  have a minimum verifiable personal net worth of $600,000 which has been accumulated through legal and legitimate sources in your own right;

v  have a minimum education of secondary school equivalent;

v  be within 21-59 years of age at the time of application;

v  have transferable management skills and past employment or business ownership experience;

v  meet minimum language requirements equivalent to a CLB/NCLC 4and

v  intend to live and work in PEI while providing day-to-day active and ongoing management of your PEI-based company

v  Attend an interview with staff from the Office of Immigration.

 

v  Meet the terms and conditions of the Performance Agreement signed with the Office of Immigration.

The complete application package, along with all supporting documentation and the $10,000 application fee, can be submitted to the Office of Immigration.

Do I have to pay a fee?

There is no fee to create an Expression of Interest.  If you are selected for nomination by PEI, the application fee is $10,000 CAD which must be submitted with your application.  The acceptable forms of payment are a bank draft, a certified cheque, or a money order made payable to Island Investment Development, Inc. 

 

If your file is not accepted, the entire fee will be refunded.  If your file is declined or withdrawn prior to you being interviewed by our office, $7,500 will be refunded.  If your file is declined or withdrawn after you have interviewed with our office, the entire fee is non-refundable.  The acceptable forms of payment are a bank draft, a certified cheque, or a money order made payable to Island Investment Development Inc.

Immigrate to PEI as a Worker

1.Critical Workers

You can apply for a nomination for permanent residency through the Critical Worker stream of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) if you are currently working in PEI.  The PEI Critical Worker stream is employer-driven, allowing Island employers to fill low-skilled positions that they are unable to fill through the local job market.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to apply for the PEI Critical Worker stream you must:

 

  • have a full-time long-term (i.e. permanent or minimum of  two years) job offer from a PEI employer in NOC skill level C or D in one of the following occupations: truck driver, customer service representative, labourer, food and beverage server, or housekeeping attendant;
  • have worked a minimum of six months full-time for the PEI employer;
  • have a valid work permit and legal status in Canada;
  • be able to attend an interview with staff from the Office, if required;
  • possess a minimum education of secondary school;
  • be between the ages of 21 and 59;
  • have at least two years of full-time work experience or relevant education in the past  five years;
  • provide a language test from an IRCC approved testing institute within the past  two years with a minimum score of CLB/NCLC 4;
  • have sufficient financial resources to pay all immigration costs (including travel expenses) for you and your family to be able to establish in PEI; and
  • demonstrate a genuine intention to settle in PEI.

 

2. International Graduates

You can apply for a nomination for permanent residency through the International Graduate stream of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP), if you graduated from an accredited PEI post secondary institution and are currently working in PEI.  The International Graduate stream is employer-driven, allowing Island employers to fill high-skilled positions that they are unable to fill through the local job market.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to apply for the PEI International Graduate stream you must:

 

  • have a full-time long-term (i.e. permanent or minimum of  two years) job offer from a PEI employer in NOC skill level  0, A, or B
  • have worked a minimum of six months for the PEI employer in a position that is directly related to post-secondary education received in PEI;
  • have a valid post-graduate work permit and legal status in Canada;
  • be able to attend an interview with staff from the Office, if required;
  • have successfully completed a post-secondary degree or diploma (minimum  two year program) from a publically-funded PEI post-secondary institution;
  • be between the ages of 21 and 59;
  • possess sufficient English and/or French language ability to perform the job offered;
  • have sufficient financial resources to pay all immigration costs (including travel expenses) for you and your family to be able to establish in PEI; and
  • demonstrate a genuine intention to settle in PEI.

3. PEI Express Entry

You can apply for a PEI Express Entry nomination for permanent residency through the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP).  Your nomination through PEI PNP will increase your chance of being issued an Invitation to Apply from the Federal Government. 

Am I eligible to apply?

To be eligible for nomination through PEI Express Entry, you must:

  • meet the requirements of at least one of the Federal Economic Immigration programs:
    • Federal Skilled Worker Program;
    • Federal Skilled Trades Program; or
    • Canadian Experience Class
  • create a Federal Express Entry Profile and be placed in the pool of candidates.  You can create a profile at any time through IRCC).

 

There are two pathways to permanent residency through the PEI Express Entry Category, depending on if you have a job offer in PEI or not.  Priority will be given to applicants that are living and working in PEI.

4. Skilled Workers in PEI

You can apply for a nomination for permanent residency through the Skilled Worker stream of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP), if you are currently employed by an Island employer.  The Skilled Worker stream is employer-driven, allowing Island employers to fill high-skilled positions that they are unable to fill through the local job market.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to apply for the PEI Skilled Worker stream you must:

  • have a full-time long-term (i.e. permanent or minimum of  two years) job offer from a PEI employer in National Occupation Classification (NOC) skill level 0, A, or B
  • have a valid work permit to be working in Canada;
  • have legal status in country of residence;
  • be able to attend an interview with staff from the Office, if required;
  • have successfully completed a post-secondary degree or diploma (minimum two year program);
  • be between the ages of 21 and 59;
  • have at least two years of full-time work experience in the past  five years;
  • possess sufficient English and/or French language ability to perform the job offered.  Language ability can be verified by one of the following:
    • a language test from an IRCC approved testing institute within the past  two years with a minimum score of CLB/NCLC 4; or
    • Employer signed PEI PNP-L06 Employer Language Declaration; or
    • documents from an internationally recognized institution indicating that the principal language studied was in English or French.
  • have sufficient financial resources for the applicant and family to pay all immigration costs (including travel expenses) to be able to establish in PEI; and
  • demonstrate a genuine intention to settle in PEI.

How do I apply?

If you meet all of the eligibility criteria listed above, you must read the Labour Application Guide  then you or your representative must create a profile in the Prince Edward Island Expression of Interest system.  To create a profile you will be asked to provide a valid email address, and identification information including your passport details.   Once your account has been verified, you will be able to proceed to complete your profile. Applicants can only have one active profile at any one time.

Your profile will remain active for a period of six months. You must ensure information provided in your profile is accurate and verifiable.  If your situation changes prior to being invited to apply, you may update your profile.  If your situation changes after being invited to apply you must contact the Office with the new information; this may impact the ultimate decision on your file. You can find additional information on the EOI points grid in the Labour Application Guide.

Atlantic Immigration Pilot for Employers - Designation

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program is an employer-driven federal immigration pilot program designed to help you fill permanent labour shortages and skill gaps in your business by supporting foreign nationals for permanent residency.  There are three different streams which aim to address different needs.  The Atlantic High Skilled Program allows you to attract highly skilled individuals, the Atlantic Intermediate Skilled Program allows you to attract semi-skilled individuals, and the Atlantic International Graduate Program allows you to attract recent graduates from Atlantic Canada post-secondary institutions.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to participate in the Pilot you must be a designated employer.  To become a designated employer you must:

  • Want to hire full-time, non-seasonal, international candidates
  • Be in good standing with provincial and federal standards and legislation as per the program guidelines
  • Demonstrate your preparedness to receive and meet the settlement needs of international candidate(s) and accompanying family members, and agree to do so
  • Understand and agree to the reporting requirements for the program

What is the process?

 

The Pilot is a two-step process.  The first step is to become designated.  You will only need to be designated once, but you will be contacted annually by our office to update your file.  The second step is to identify international candidates that you would like to support through this program and submitting an endorsement application to our office. 

 

Atlantic Immigration Pilot For Employers – Endorsement

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program is an employer-driven federal immigration pilot program designed to help you fill permanent labour shortages and skill gaps in your business by supporting foreign nationals for permanent residency.  The Pilot is a two step process for employers, you must first become a designated employer and then submit a endorsement application for every foreign national you want to support through the program.

To be eligible to endorse a foreign national you must be a designated employer.

What is the process?

You must first identify a foreign national that you want to endorse through the program and complete the job offer template

.  The foreign national must then approach an approved Settlement Service Provider

 

with a copy of their job offer and your designation letter and get a settlement plan prepared.  You must then submit the job offer, endorsement application, and settlement plan to their office.

Saskatchewan PNP Immigration

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) can provide an alternate and quicker method of entry into Canada.  It permits Saskatchewan to nominate applicants, who qualify under criteria established by the province, to the federal government for landed immigrant status. The most important programs for immigration in this province are:

 

Skilled Workers

This category is prepared for skilled workers, professionals or managers who have a full-time, permanent job offer from a Saskatchewan employer.  It is divided into two sub-categories:

  • Skilled Workers
  • Existing Work Permit

 

Entrepreneurs 

There are four criteria in the SINP Entrepreneur Category that you must meet to be approved for nomination:

1.      A minimum net worth of $300,000 Canadian Dollars (CAD) that can be verified.

2.      Assemble of net worth through legal means, which can be verified.

3.      Minimum three years entrepreneurial or relevant business management experience.

4.      Intent to reside and actively invest in Saskatchewan, which is evaluated using the Intent Grading Grid

5.      Have a minimum active investment of $150,000 CAD in the Province of Saskatchewan.  If you own less than 1/3 of the business, then your total investment must be worth at least $1 million CAD;

6.      Be involved in the day-to-day management of your business; and 

7.      Make a $75,000 Good Faith Deposit.  If you meet certain conditions, you may apply for your Good Faith Deposit to be returned

 

Family Sponsorship

This category is for immigrant families living in Saskatchewan who want to sponsor their skilled and educated family members come to work and live in the province.

Applicants must have a relative who has been living in Saskatchewan for at least one year.  They must be willing to provide applicants with assistance during the immigration process and after they arrive in Saskatchewan .Spouses or common-law partners are not eligible to apply under this category.

To be considered for the SINP Family Sponsorship Category, you have to be:

1.      between 18 - 49 years old.

2.      Have a signed statement of support (SINP-500-22) from your supporting family household in Saskatchewan.

3.      Have completed post-secondary education, training of at least one year in length that has resulted in a diploma, a certificate, or a degree.

4.      Have at least one year of work experience in the past 10 years in your intended job. (your employment offer in Saskatchewan). 

5.      Have an offer of full-time, permanent employment in Saskatchewan either in an occupation or trade in the NOC Matrix level "A" or "B", or in a designated trade in Saskatchewan.  

6.      Have enough language proficiency in one or both of the official languages in Canada.

 

Farm Owner/ Operator

To be considered for the Farm Owner/Operator category you must meet all of the following four criteria:

1.      Available Equity ( you must provide financial documents showing a net worth of $500,000 Canadian Dollars (CAD)).

2.      Refundable Cash Payment - you must sign a Performance Agreement performing to purchase a farm operation in Saskatchewan and make a "good faith" payment of $75,000 CAD in trust.  The cash deposit will be returned to you when the terms of the Performance Agreement are met.  The payment will not be turning back to the Province if the terms are not met within two years of landing in Saskatchewan.

3.      Mandatory visit to Saskatchewan – you must have conduct a thorough exploratory visit to Saskatchewan of no less than five working days and must meet with an SINP representative.

4.      Farm operation skills and experience - you must provide documentation (e.g. education and training, work experience, financial documents of their previous operations) that demonstrates that you are a knowledgeable farm operator.  If necessary, we may further verify this information through an interview when you are in Saskatchewan.

Application Criteria:

1.      Have a minimum personal net worth of $300,000 CAD, which is verifiable to 80% certainty.

2.      Verifiable legal accumulation of funds to 80% certainty.

3.      At the time of your application you must be under age 40.

4.      You must have a minimum of three years farm ownership, farm management or practical farming experience.

5.      You must provide a documented proposal for a commercial Saskatchewan farming opportunity based on research, consultations or formal coursework relevant to Saskatchewan agricultural conditions.  Hobby Farms are not eligible.  The farming proposal must be a commercial venture undertaken with a reasonable expectation of profit.  In Saskatchewan, a qualified farming business must have a minimum of $10,000 CAD annual revenue.

6.      You or your spouse must have marketable employment skills, based on education and experience that allows you to supplement your farming income

Nomination Requirements:

1.      Before submitting your application you must have performed an exploratory visit to Saskatchewan that lasted at least five days.

2.      You must have practical farming experience with skills that are linked to Saskatchewan farming conditions.

3.      You must make a minimum equity investment of $150,000 CAD in a new or existing farming operation in Saskatchewan consist of either capital assets (land, machinery) or working capital.

4.      You must make a $75,000 CAD refundable deposit into the Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Trust Fund ($2,500 upon acceptance of application and $72,500 upon nomination).

  

Students

The Student Category permits eligible post-secondary graduates to apply for immigrant status under the SINP. There are two streams of the Student Category: the Post-Graduation Work Permit Stream and the Master’s and PhD Graduate Stream.

 

 

 

Post-Graduation Work Permit Stream: 

You may qualify to apply under the SINP Student Category: Post-Graduation Work Permit Stream if:

1.      You have graduated with a certificate, diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary educational institution in Canada.  The program must have been equivalent to at least one academic year (eight months) of full-time study.

2.      If you graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution in Saskatchewan you must have worked for at least six months (with minimum 960 hours) of paid employment in Saskatchewan. If you have graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution outside of Saskatchewan you must have worked for 12 consecutive months of paid full time employment (with a minimum of 1920 hours) in Saskatchewan after graduation.

3.      You have applied for and received a post-graduation work permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

4.      You have a current, permanent, full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer.  The job offer does not have to relate to your studies.

5.      If your job offer falls into a NOC C or D, you must have a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 4 or higher English Language ability across all 4 categories (listening, speaking, reading and writing.)

 

Master’s and PhD Graduate Stream

You may qualify to apply under the SINP Student Category: Master’s and PhD Graduate Stream if:

1.      You have completed all degree requirements for an existing Master’s and/or PhD program that required at least one academic year of full-time study from the University of Saskatchewan or the University of Regina.

2.      You are applying within two years of the date on which your degree was granted and from a country in which you have legal status.

3.      You intend to live in Saskatchewan and are able to demonstrate your ability to settle and work in Saskatchewan with at least one of the following:

ü  Have at least six months of employment history in your field of training in Saskatchewan;

ü  Are currently employed in your field of training or have received a job offer in your field of training in Saskatchewan for a term longer than six months;

ü  You have enough money to sustain for a short time without work ($10,000 for you and $2,000 for each accompanying family members.
If you do not have an offer of employment or if your job offer falls into a NOC “C” or “D”, you must have a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 4 or higher English Language ability across all 4 categories (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).

You are eligible to apply as a priority applicant if you meet one of options A, B, C or D.

A. You are currently working in Manitoba as a temporary foreign worker with a valid temporary work permit and have been working for at least six months.

B. As an International Student you graduated from a publicly funded Manitoba post-secondary institution in at least a one-year program for which you received a certificate, diploma or degree, you have an offer of a long-term, full-time job from a Manitoba employer and have been working in that job at least six months with a valid post-graduation work permit.

C. You have been invited to apply under a Strategic Initiative.

D. You have a strong connection to Manitoba through having family who live in the province, and you meet the following five factors.

Age 
If You are between 21 and 49 years old.
People in this age range can manage the cultural, linguistic and economic challenges involved in moving to work in a new country, involving the possible need to retrain or pass rigorous certification or licensing processes for some jobs.

Education 
You completed secondary (high) school and have at least one year post-secondary education or training for which you earned a post-secondary diploma or degree.

Work Experience 
You have at least two years of full-time work experience in the past five years.

Language Ability
You completed your secondary and post-secondary education in English or French, or scored at least 5 on an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. Having at least this level of English, and being willing to improve your language skills, will help you gain a good job, participate in training and licensing or certification programs that will help you meet the occupational demands and get ahead in the Manitoba workplace.

Adaptability
With your application you must submit a Settlement Plan that explains the steps you will take to establish your career and your home in Manitoba and have your plan endorsed by a close relative who has lived in Manitoba as a permanent resident for at least one year.
